His mother was descended from Scottish settlers, who left around the 1740s after the 1745 Rebellion and then settled around South Carolina. On his father's side, the Ferree line has been traced back to the early settlement of Pennsylvania, and from there to a family of lower nobility in Normandy that worked in the silk trade. They were forced out of France due to being Huguenots in 1688 and settled in Pennsylvania in 1708. It is believed that Ferree's mother died in childbirth. Although there is no evidence that James Logan, William Penn's Secretary and later a major political figure in the state, was directly related to Logan Ferree there is evidence that they both are descended from the same Clan Logan in Scotland. It is possible though that the name Logan was given for two reasons, being the name of the Clan that his mother was of in Scotland, and/or the name of a good friend of the Ferree family when they first settled in Pennsylvania. 1800- Following the death of his father, the details of which are not known but is believed to have been due
