Colombian National Flag
Decrees 861 of 1934, issued by the national government while being President of the Republic General PedroNel Ospina and Enrique Olaya Herrera respectively, contain dispositions about the national flag and coat of arms. Bellow is the part concerning the flag:
FIRST ARTICLE.- The flag and ensign of the Republic of Colombia is composed by the colors yellow, blue and red, disposed in three horizontal bands of which the yellow, above, will be half the width of the flag, and the other two in equal bands of one quarter of the total each, with blue in the middle.
SECOND ARTICLE.- The merchant flag of Colombia, according to decree Nº 309 of 1980, will be 3 m long by 2 m wide; it will bring in the center a shield in oval shape, in blue field with a fimbriation of red velvet 5 cm wide, and with a white eight-pointed star in the middle with a diameter of 10 cm. The axis of the oval, inside the blue field, are 40 cm and 30 cm.
PARAGRAPH: This will be the flag used in ships of the Colombian Merchant fleet and in the Colombian consulates abroad.
THIRD ARTICLE.- The war fag used by the Army, will be 1.30 m long by 1.10 m width for the infantry arms, and the flag for the mounted arms 1 m long by 1 m width. These flags will have in the middle the coat of arms of the Republic, framed in a circle of red velvet 5 cm width and a diameter of 40 cm in the outer limit, inside this band will be written, in golden letters, the name of the corp it belongs.
208.- War flag used by the Army will be, according to law, 1.35 m long by 1.10 m wide, for the mounted arms. These flags will have in the middle the coat of arms of the Republic inside an oval of red velvet, in which the name of the corp or military partition to which it belongs, will be weaved in golden letters.
209.- Flag with coat of arms may only be used by the armed forces of the Nation.
210.- National flags flied on quarrels, public buldings, merchant ships, etc. may be bigger or smaller and won't have a coat of arms.
